Use your Entrepreneurial and Design Thinking Skills to enhance Ruwwad's mentorship programs
Background: MARKERSPACE DESIGN THINKING CURRICULUM
Ruwwad is a non-profit community development organization that works with disenfranchised communities through education, youth volunteerism and grassroots organizing.
The Maker Space is central to Ruwwad’s programming, where multiple initiatives are offered. The adolescent participants, who are between the ages of 14 and 17, partake in digital literacy courses and social skills courses, focused on encouraging creativity. The Maker Space offers an additional Design Thinking curriculum for ongoing business and entrepreneurship projects at Ruwwad where participants are supported in developing business plans, and entrepreneurial skills.
These courses are offered through the Design Thinking Innovation curriculum that is constructed and utilized by the Ruwwad staff.
Background: Business support centre
The Business Support Centre is the host, physically and operationally, for Ruwwad’s work in Economic Justice.The space will host all economic justice projects and provide capacity building resources to local entrepreneurs including workshops and mentorship to support in things like becoming a formal business.
Because the center is relatively new and the organization is in a transitional stage, volunteers will support Ruwwad staff in providing feedback and recommendations on best practices for developing strategic reference documents that staff can refer to while developing their program.
Background: mentorship for local jordanian entrepreneurs
Volunteers will have an opportunity to work one on one with local entrepreneurs in a 1-2 hour mentoring session. Ruwwad provides mentoring, financial and capacity building services to a number of local entrepreneurs and are expecting their numbers to increase by April 2024.
On the first day of the program, Ruwwad and V2I will review the list of participants and background information collected by Ruwwad to select a few individuals whose needs match with the skillsets of the volunteers; who express interest in the session; and whose availability matches with that of our program and when translators will be available.

You will:
- 1. Support the enhancement of Ruwwad’s Makerspace Design Thinking Curriculum’s.
- 2. Enhance their capacity to offer services through their Business Support Centre
- 3. Mentor local Jordanian entrepreneurs in their entrepreneurial ventures
We are offering two volunteer program dates for the jordan volunteer program.

APRIL 18- APRIL 25 | APRIL 25 – MAY 02
Each date option will include 6 volunteer days. Travel to Jordan and back will take place over the weekend.

As a well-educated and skilled professional, we believe that it is more fulfilling to use your energy and volunteering time to share your skills and build resilient communities rather than the alternative, which is usually going abroad to do something that’s not related to your skills at all (building a structure, painting, etc).
WHAT DOES THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM INCLUDE?
Simply put, EVERYTHING!
Round trip flights from your home city to Jordan and back
Hotel accommodations while in Jordan
All of your meals while in Jordan
All transportation: we’ll pick you up from the airport, drive you around while in Jordan, and drive you back to the airport when it’s time to leave!
WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED TO HAVE AS A VOLUNTEER?
Fluent English language skills
Basic, intermediate or fluent Arabic language skills (an asset but not an absolute must!)
Familiarity with Google Drive and/or Microsoft Office (also an asset but not an absolute must!)
An interest in employing your professional skills to help others overcome barriers
A passion for supporting communities and individuals who have experienced historical underinvestment
A basic understanding of the Palestinian-Israel conflict and sympathy for those who have fallen victim to a 47 year occupation and the land invasion of Gaza
A basic understanding of the Syrian conflict and sympathy for those who have been made to seek asylum through refugee camps in Jordan. You can learn more about the refugee camps here
