Venture 2 Impact partnered with DocuSign’s Social Impact team to engage employees in skills-based volunteer opportunities globally, where employees leverage their professional skill sets to support nonprofit organizations. The goal of the skills-based volunteering project is to support non-profit organizations whose missions are aligned with DocuSign while helping to scale their work and impact.

THE INNOVATION
The FSC-IF was recently established in 2018, however many of their administrative processes occur manually by pen and paper. This means that administrative staff are required to undergo multiple steps in processes like scheduling meetings, updating staff on the progress of various projects, monitoring budget expenses, making payments, recording data, and preparing official documents. FSC-IF staff report that their hours are diluted by these urgent manual tasks that could easily be completed through a centralized online system and that staff would rather focus on important tasks like updating internal manuals or reviewing their budget. Specifically, the FSC-IF staff requested that volunteers digitize and improve their payment and travel administrative processes, as these were their largest administrative challenges at the time.
DocuSign employees conducted a discovery of the current administrative processes at FSC-IF. Then, the volunteer team developed an analysis of the manual processes. The volunteer team presented their analyses to FSC-IF staff, who provided feedback and offered additional insight into the pitfalls of the existing administration processes.
- Based on the discovery and analysis, the volunteer team produced recommendations speaking to how the FSC-IF could best digitize their payment and travel administration processes. During this process, the team collaborated by sharing their expert knowledge with their fellow skilled volunteers in order to co-create their final recommendations.
- After several months of constructive collaboration, the volunteer team presented their final recommendations to FSC-IF staff. During the presentation, FSC-IF staff had the opportunity to ask questions for further clarification or inquire more into the recommended course of action.
- The final presentation gave both the volunteer team and staff the opportunity to ensure the recommendations were to be implemented in a way that would maximize the adoption of the digitized administration processes at FSC-IF.
