In conjunction with the dedicated people of the Onzole River Project, we engaged a pilot to see if Venture 2 Impact could address economic development needs within an extremely remote community with only a river connecting them to markets. In addition, this particular community has been devalued due to race biases within the country. Our engagement was short-lived but in that time we learned a lot from the community, the Onzole River Project and were able to do some initial fact-finding and teaching.

: Life in this part of Ecuador is very physically demanding. It is hot, humid, wet and very muddy at times. Most income generating activity requires tremendous fitness.

: Everywhere we went the children and community engaged us.

: We always found time to play with the children.

: One of the main crops is chocolate. This is an unopened pod.

: This is what chocolate looks like long before you eat it!

: Learning from the villagers how to process chocolate (pictured here) or how to farm in their conditions and many other things was very eye opening.

: We set aside a day to play sports, organized entirely by their own youth leaders.

: Sporting is never complete without a game of hockey.

: Taking the opportunity to teach a little English to very eager youth.

: One of the many classes we were able to teach.

: Using technology as a means to learn English while also becoming familiar with computers.

: Kids loved the little extra attention they received when we took the time to play, take pictures or interact.

The Onzole River Project exists to ensure the future generations of the Onzole River are educated, empowered, and equipped, to keep leading their communities toward positive change. They work tirelessly to serve the needs of the many communities living along the Onzole River. They invest in culturally relevant educational practices in order to inspire and equip future generations to be strong leaders capable of making positive changes in their communities.
